Team

Our management team is the same team that established Credito Familiar and Apoyo Economico;  both very successful microfinance institutions in Mexico.  Apoyo Financiero was born when the team decided to bring this experience and business model to the underserved U.S. Hispanic market in San Francisco.

Rick Parras, CEO and Co-founder:
Rick has over 21 years of experience in the consumer finance industry, including 18 years at CitiFinancial, a member of Citigroup. While he was there he was an instrumental part of the team that started Crédito Familiar, a joint venture between Citigroup (formerly Travelers Group) and Bancomer Financial Group. He helped grow the network from two to 28 branches, and was responsible fro branch operations and implementation of business model and business culture. At CitiFinancial he was also involved with the acquisitions of Atlas finance, the second largest consumer finance company in Chile, and Provencred, a consumer finance company in Argentina. Rick was responsible for implementing the business model and transforming the branch operations at Atlas Finance. Rick spent over 4 years on international assignments in Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. Prior to CitiFinancial, he worked for Fist Bank, Island Bank, and Mbank in south Texas.

Mauricio Galan, Chairman and Co-founder:
Mauricio has over 25 years of experience in financial services and consumer finance. He is a founder and CEO of Apoyo Economico Familiar, a microfinance company in Mexico. Apoyo Economico currently has over 60 branches across Mexico. Prior to that he was Director of Hispanic Markets at Citibank West. He was CEO of Crédito Familiar and was a key member of the team that developed the business plan and executed on it. He grew the company to over 140 branches. Prior to that Mauricio was at Bancomer Financial Group.

Miguel Alday, Board Member and Co-founder:
Miguel has over 18 years of experience in financial services. He is COO and board member of Apoyo Economico, where he helped design the software platform that is used to administrate consumer loans. Prior to Apoyo Economico, he was CEO for Solución Express, a microfinance company with presence in Guadalajara Mexico. Prior to that he was COO for Crédito Familiar, where he was responsible for 150 branches prior to his departure. Miguel began his financial services career in 1990 at Bancomer where he served as Assistant Director of Finance and also held positions in marketing and collections for the credit card and auto business lines. Miguel received his degree in civil engineering from the University of Mexico (UNAM), and his MBA from IPADE.

Michael Wiley:
Michael has over 10 years of experience in law and accounting, specializing in corporate law, corporate governance and securities law. As both as attorney and a CPA, he has negotiated numerous venture capital private equity financing deals, merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions and debt financings. He is principal of Wiley Advising (now Cypress Peak), a provider of on-demand general counsel, accounting and other business services to corporate and individual clients. Before founding Cypress Peak, Michael was an associate at the Venture Law Group (VLG), which merged with Heller Ehrman VLG. He also worked as a tax accountant and advisor at KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. Michael received his B.S. and J.D. from Brigham Young University.

Julián Hasfield:
Julian has over 17 years of experience in financial services. He is a co-founder and CAO of Apoyo Economico Familiar  in Mexico where he was responsible for the design and implementation of all system functionality.    He served as Sales and Marketing Director at Crédito Familiar managing a $20M  budget  to support  the branch network reach their goals. Julian began his career in the financial sector at  Bancomer in 1992. He was part of the team that start up Servicios Electrónicos Globales, “E-Global”, an ATM/POS Credit Card terminal transactions processor company created by Banamex, Bancomer & HSBC. He has a degree in Industrial Engineering and he studied the IE Master in Texas A&I University at Kingsville Texas, now part of Texas A&M.

Carlos S. Baradello:
Carlos combines unique business and academic credentials as an entrepreneurial technology executive, with hands-on experience in the US and global market, including Europe and Latin America. He is the Associate Dean of the University of San Francisco’s School of Business and Management where he manages the corporate and international programs and teaches in the areas of Globalization, global Marketing and Product Management, Social Entrepreneurship, the Us Hispanic Market’s Role in the Economic Development and Integration of the America and leads transnational entrepreneurship research projects. He is also a Mentor of the Global Social Benefit Incubator at the Center for Science, Technology, and Society of Santa Clara University. He was co-founder and General Partner of the Sienna 2006 Hispanic Fund, a growth capital venture fund focused on the US Hispanic market. Previously he worked for Motorola, Advanced Fibre Communications, Hubbell, Digital Equipment Corporation, NYNEX and ITT.
